The desert mountains of California hold many fascinating archaeological secrets, and the Coso Range in particular has some of the world’s most extensive petroglyphs. The ancient images make us wonder way beyond our norms of time and place, and make us ponder what the stones and the voices of the ancient peoples could say if they could speak. Andy saw this collection of bighorn images in the morning, and was immediately struck by the way the symbols, facets, and lichens created a layered mosaic of form and time. He came back to photograph it in the afternoon, when even light let each part of the image play a balanced role.
